Treasure Hunt

Ken Ely, fieldstone wall design, construction, and restoration.

See Ken's wall projects in process, and talk with him about materials, tools, techniques, and local stone-wall history. There are samples of free-standing walls, retaining walls, fire rings, and flower-garden walls, incorporating some unusual materials and designs. Also, try your hand at balancing stones on top of the wall and playing the marble race! Other new stone structures may also be under construction. On Monday, Ken will be conducting a free hands-on stone-wall construction workshop. Participants are encouraged not to wear open-toed shoes. Gloves and all tools will be provided. Start times will depend on visitation traffic, but you will be able to participate regardless of when you arrive. Itís free!

To find this studio, proceed to Dimock on S.R. 29 (about 6 miles south of Montrose). In Dimock, turn east onto S.R. 3023 (directly across from the former Baker's Garage, not at the four-corners flashing light). The site is 2.2 miles from Route 29, on the left. Watch for the pink arrows. From the Clarks Summit area, follow Route 11 North. In Nicholson, immediately after passing Pump & Pantry, turn left and proceed north on Main Street (becomes State Route 3023), passing Nicholson Lumber as you leave town. Following the yellow highway lines, bear left at the first fork (toward Dimock), then bear right a few minutes later just beyond the old Union Church and cemetery. In three miles or so look for the stone walls, pink arrow, and sign at the driveway entrance on the right.
